Age Spots

Age Spots Description
The term 'age spots', or lentigines, refers to the brown spots we see on sun damaged skin. They tend to appear on the areas of the body which receive the most amount of sun, for example on the hands, face, shoulders, and arms.

Age Spots Education
As we age our skin is subjected to more and more sun damage. Our skin has melanin pigment which absorbs sunlight and helps naturally protect our skin from UV rays. However as we age, our skin's natural ability to fend off UV rays from the sun begins to deteriorate, and we see the development of age spots. Age spots can be effectively treated with lasers. Conventional techniques for improving the appearance of age spots include bleaches, freezing, acid washes, pulsed light and traditional laser treatments. But such procedures often fade spots only slightly.
